Crazy...

Confusingly, this happened...
YouTube Video

... so I decided to have Sandy "checked" after this video was taken. Firstly, however, I removed the stitch from Sandy's belly button from the laparoscope.
She's getting better :-)

Shopping for baby supplies

So in an effort to keep sandy sane during her 'house arrest' post-surgical recovery phase, we have ventured out to a baby supplies store in Kawana. After a few attempts at collapsing a pram, I asked for help.

So far the 'baby Jogger - City mini' seems to be the best of the bunch for its;
- easy collapse feature
- light weight
- cool selection of nice colours

So anyone with any advice or wisdom on car seats, prams/joggers please comment!

We also found a lovely range of bamboo material baby wraps and swaddles. From http://tllc.com.au/weegoamigo/home.php

All of their products are awesome!!

Recovery..

So as it turns out, Sandy is as determined post-surgically as she is in regular day-to-day life. This is Sandy on DAY 3, post

Wandering around the hospital grounds. !? Oh well, she is incredibly healthy and strong and is recovering so much faster than we thought possible. She has been discharged from hospital after receiving so many loving messages and lovely flowers

Also chocolates! Almost all of which made it through to the patient, after some filtering through Rob...

The patients continue to do well. Baby is still happily chilling in there, seemingly ambivalent to Sandy's surgical adventures! We are due for another scan in a few weeks.

Surgery!

So the doctors and Sandy & I have decided that diagnostic laparotomy is the only way forward. There is about a 1/100 chance of miscarriage with abdominal surgery in the first trimester.
Despite this scary risk, we obviously need to find and fix the cause of poor Sandy's 9/10 pain. She is no sook, and I think her 9/10 is my 15/10 pain.

Here Sandy is quite cheery, with PCA in-situ, she quite literally has morphine on tap! With her sense of humor in overdrive, she is a little drowsy. It's 10:00pm, Sunday night. Post-surg we had the information that she was suffering the ischemic pain of an ovarian torsion!
With these views laparoscopically...
First the nice normal left ovary..

And then this!

A huge and half necrotic right ovary. Dr Victor immediately converted to open laparotomy (pfannensteil incision), to unwind the torsion, remove the necrotic tissue and fix the ovary to reduce the risk of future torsion.
Sandy started her recovery really well.

Some early excitement

Sandy experienced some serious abdominal pain. Ominously this all happened over the mothers day long weekend.

After a worried night in the ED, she was admitted to St. Vincent's as a maternity patient. She managed to remain a puzzle to the O&G docs, a urologist and the surgeons!

Week 6 The Bean!!

Week 6 scan, after the "guilty stick", was ordered by our concerned GP after he heard the family history of twins! Apparently we stand around a 1/8 chance of being rewarded with double trouble! :)

Please see below for confirmation of a single bean only...

The Guilty stick...

The stick that started all the excitement and trouble!
I'd better leave it there.
